The Institute of Turkish Revolution History is a research, education and training center established by Law No. 4204 on April 15, 1942, for the purpose of examining the revolution movement led by Atatürk in a contemporary manner and teaching it to young generations.
Hasan Âli Yücel, with his devoted efforts during his time as Minister of National Education (1938-1946), created a national consciousness in line with Atatürk’s principles and ensured communication between individuals. The best example of this is the Institute of Turkish Revolution History, which was established during his ministry. The Institute was located in the section called “Atatürk Lodge” at the end of the entrance hall of the Faculty of Languages, History and Geography, and its Directorate was Prof. Dr. Enver Ziya Karal was appointed. With the Higher Education Council (YÖK) Law, which came into force after September 12, 1980, Law No. 4204 was completely repealed. With this change, the Institute of Turkish Revolution History was affiliated with the Rectorate of Ankara University. Today, the Institute continues its work in this status in Keçiören Gümüşdere 60th Year Campus, in accordance with its founding purpose.
The Institute of Turkish Revolution History conducts research based on interdisciplinary approaches and scientific methods on the Turkish War of Independence under the leadership of Atatürk, the Turkish Revolution and the principles on which the Republic of Turkey regime is based; To provide opportunities for readers and researchers at all levels to use its museum, archive and library; To give postgraduate courses in the field of Ataturk’s Principles and History of Revolution courses and Republic History in faculties and colleges and to train academicians specialized in this field; It has undertaken the mission of giving conferences and publishing publications to promote the history and regime of the Republic of Turkey both within and outside the country.
Journal of “Atatürk Yolu” one of the institute’s periodicals, has been published twice a year (May-November) since 1988 as seventy-four issues so far. Journal of Atatürk Yolu, a “Refereed Journal” since May 2002, is scanned by TUBİTAK ULAKBİM Social Sciences Database, ASOS (Akademia Social Sciences Index) and EBSCO. As well as a print and e-journal and scanned in the Ankara University Journals Database, the journal aims to publish original historical research in the social, cultural, political and economic fields of Turkey during the War of Independence and the Republic period. The journal can include not only archival studies, but also studies that can bring new interpretations to the writing of the history of the Republic, critical analyzes that can make theoretical and methodological contributions to this field, educational science research on the teaching of Ataturk’s Principles and History of Revolution, as well as book promotions and article translations that may fall within the above scope.
